day whatever

I'm so disappointed that I didn't keep up this blog. I've already looked back and realized I wrote about things I had already forgotten. Shame.

The rest of the days consisted of wine tours (mom driving me home tours), walking in scenic places, running in scenic places, making a scene... reading, eating at cool restaurants (The Refinery), riding Christmas trains (Stanley park Christmas train), bike riding, flying... the list goes on. ill add pictures or whatever and edit this later or whatever

Day 3

Woke up to this

I'm so tired to blog. We woke up at 6am, drank tea until 8, then had a nice hot breakfast downstairs with the two puppies and Larry and Pauline. We then packed up and drove to the Coquilla Tunnels which were actually closed:/ but the walk to them was beautiful. I hopped the fence but then got too scared to walk through them by myself. They were dark, there was a high risk of rockfall, and we had just seen a sign that we were in bear country. I know what it feels like to be in the presence of a bear (or at least freak yourself out enough into thinking you're around one) and it isn't pleasant.

So I ditched that idea, settled with the adventure of just hopping a fence, and we continued our drive down route 3 with a final destination of summerland. We stopped in a little town called Princeton (omg like princeton nj). It literally looks like you have gone back in time when you drive through it. There are no stop lights, it is surrounded by ranches, the land is dry amongst rain and snow soaked mountains, and we actually saw a tumbleweed a few km outside town...

After lunch at a pub with a cool copper bar (which my mom would not stop talking about), we made our way up to Summerland for the festival of the lights downtown. It was cute and family oriented with cider and suspended lights everywhere. We ate at this restaurant local right next to our hotel. It. Was. Amazing.

Laying in bed. Passing out. Ttyt

Day 2

November 29th 2012

Waking up at 7
Pictures as promised from the apt

Downtown on a rainy day

My sailor outfit?

Mama

I went for a swim in the basement of my dad's apartment. It is probably max 30 ft long, so it made for a short kick set with a lot of flip turns (open of course...). I sat in the sauna for about 10 minutes until I realized it wasn't on. Then I mosied upstairs for a shower and my mom and I went out to lunch at my favorite whole in the wall noodle shop, Motomachi Shokudo. So tasty.

We walked home and planned a spur of the moment trip to the Okanagan Valley in eastern British Columbia. It is a valley that is right on the banks of Okanaga Lake. It is a flat land and well known, along with its surrounding regions, for beautiful scenery as well as vineyards. We decided to make it a 2-4 day trip across the vineyards and around the lakes, and I am so glad we did.

We began our drive up the Trans-Canadian Highway (Highway 1) and stopped along the mountainside to take shots of the low lying fog draping the base of the mountains. We were pleasantly surprised by a small town called Harrison which was the home to hot springs (until we realized that the hot springs were only present through a pipe stemming from the very bottom of the lake, and that they reached a temperature of 145 degrees faranheit-- much too hot to bathe in). Harrison Lake was beautiful. (We were also pleasantly surprised by the radio and the tunes coming out of it. Muse's Madness got us good.

We found this cute little town called Hope which is positioned somewhere near the middle of the journey from Vancouver to Kelowna/ Vernon. It is well known for its cedar carvings done with chain saws. They are positioned around the town and began with a creative project done by a local in the middle of a park with a rotting cedar oak tree. The town is called Hope, and we chose a beautiful bread and breakfast on top of the side of a mountain, called High Hopes. The bed and breakfast was made for the house owners, a pleasant british lady named Pauline, and her Canadian husband Larry. They designed the house and spent 7 years, with engineers, constructing the house looking over Hope. They rent out two bedrooms on the upstairs floor, the Eagle Room and the Bear Room. We chose the Eagle, because of it's obvious significance in our families mascot history, and because it has a view looking off the mountain. We arrived at night, so we can't wait to wake up in the morning to see the view that awaits us.

The highlights of the house include cork steps on the stairway leading up the stairs, cork flooring in the kitchen, a waterfall in the living room, a beautiful view, slate flooring, paneled wood high ceiling, and the two cutest little lap dogs the world has ever seen, one of which is 13, wears a velour red jumpsuit and can fit in a coffee mug. I'm finding it hard to keep my eyes open. Once again, I promise pictures, and links once i can get them.

Tomorrow we will probably explore the tunnels of an old railroad, or maybe even the background shots taken in the movie Rambo. We might also go to Princeton, BC, which is supposed to be like the wild west, which I love. There are supposedly no stop lights and there are a few ghost towns. Maybe even some tumbleweeds and dueling cowboys? We'll see.

Sweet Dreams.
Love,

Kit

Day 1

Nov 28th 2012
Trabizzle came over last night and had a slumber party with 1753 (watched my Apple TV with me and helped me overpack.) After we were sure to plan our whole itinerary out for the next week (we haven't scheduled a single thing...) we went to sleep. We woke up at 6:30 and were off on our adventure to Vancouver.

We flew through LAX which turned out to be a good way to split up the flights (5.5 hrs and then 2.75 hrs in a smaller plane to BC). My mom surprised me with a first class seat. I sat next to a forty something year old playing zombie Warcraft for at least 2 hours on his iPad...I tried to look away, but I couldn't, totally adding on to my already very present flight anxiety. I watched The Odd Life of Timothy Green... Trippy. Who thinks of a kid sprouting from the ground?  I sort of liked it, and I hope to be married to someone who is as good of a husband /dad as the husband/dad (don't know his name) in this movie. I then slept the rest of the way. I told my mom it was weird because the last time I looked out of the window I saw rolling hills of Virginia farmland. When I woke up I opened the shade to see the parched deserts of Nevada.

Skip the boring layover in the united club at LAX.

Skip my brief anxiety fit I threw on the second (small) plane to Vancouver (semi quieted by shotguning a mini bottle of white wine.) side thought: how fast would I get tackled if I tried to start a shot gunning party on a plane?

Fast forward to: we made it to Vancouver!!! The excitement starts in the airport. If you've been to YVR , you know what I mean. For those who haven't, you can do a Self-guided tour or Google image
From afar.

We got a taxi to our apartment on the west end (pictures to be added) and suited up in our hunter boots (my moms pair bought when i was born... 23 years old and stilllll working great) for a walk to dinner on Denman at Espana where we enjoyed wine, a cheese platter (winner: 30 year old ash coated goats milk cheese), grilled chorizo, and ham croquettes. We were too full to request the chorros with melted milk chocolate for desert. We walked it off, in a zombied food comad state, back to the apartment.

We both agreed, there is something special about walking in the rain in Vancouver. I love this city.
